Anthem continues working toward a solution.
Anthem wants Sentara to remain in network, and continues to work toward agreements that protect access to high-quality care while keeping healthcare affordable for Virginia families and employers.

Anthem remains ready to negotiate with Sentara across all lines of business and have repeatedly put forward proposals that fairly reimburse Sentara, recognize legitimate cost pressures, and provide opportunities for millions more in reimbursement tied to quality and improved patient outcomes. Instead, Sentara ended negotiations on Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and Individual plans after Anthem did not agree to demands that would require millions more in reimbursement than Sentara receives today.

Nothing changes for members today.
Sentara remains in Anthem's network. Members should continue seeing their Sentara doctors, specialists, and hospitals while negotiations continue.  If a member has difficulty scheduling an appointment because they've been told Sentara is already out of Anthem's network, contact Member Services using the number on their member ID card.

Anthem is protecting access to care.
Anthem remains committed to working directly with Sentara to reach an agreement before any disruption occurs. If an agreement is not reached, the Sentara physicians, specialists, and hospitals would no longer participate in Anthem’s Commercial and Medicare Advantage networks beginning January 1, 2027. 

If Sentara leaves the network, members in active treatment may be able to continue care at Sentara for a limited time if they are receiving certain types of care. Anthem's Member Services team will be ready to help members continue their care or transition to another provider.

For emergency care, coverage will be provided according to policy benefits and applicable cost shares. Anthem's network also includes every other major hospital system in the Tidewater and Northern Virginia regions, giving members many affordable, in-network alternatives.
